Lions dealt a pair of losses in tennis action

The Clear Lake girls tennis team was dealt a pair of losses in action last week.  The Lions were shut out at Boone, then rallied but fell short at home against St. Edmonds.

Boone 11, CL 0

Boone, a quality and experienced 2A team, dominated the Lions Thursday, April 21.  The Lions struggled to win games in singles and doubles matches.

The Lions managed just one win in singles, but swept doubles play to finish with a 5-4 loss to St. Edmonds Friday, April 22.

Reagan Brackey picked up the win in the number three singles spot, 10-7.  “She showed patience and determination in her 10-7 win over Leah Hughett,” said Coach Mary Jo Peterson.

In doubles, Gretchen Jones and Kiersten Baalson came back strong to avenge their singles losses with a solid 10-3 win over state qualifier Lily Peterson and partner Haley Ledford. At number two doubles, Chloe Mueller and Brackey took little time to defeat Hughett and Madison Tarbox, 10-2.

Jassmine Rucker, in her first varsity start, and Ali Witt held on to an 11-9 victory with strong net play over Rachael Willerth and Mackenzie Scacci to seal the fourth and final win for the Lions.
