WC 162, CL 165

Webster City edged Clear Lake, 162-165 in an early North Central Conference meeting Tuesday, April 19.  The Lynx, playing on their home course, posted the narrow win after the Lions were 10-over on the last three holes.

“Ourselves and our competitors knew the meet was going to come down to a couple strokes,” said Head Coach Eric Perry.  “We were second to Webster City last year in the NCC.  Our four varsity scorers shot plus 10 in their last three holes.  It’s tough to win many meets doing that.”

Clear Lake’s Gavin Anderson shared medalist honors with Drew Schwering, with both shooting a 39 on the par 36 course.

“Gavin battled through a first hole double-bogey and finished the rest of the eight holes one over,” said Perry.  “Easton DeVries had a good round going, as he was one over after six holes.”  DeVries finished with a 41.  Taylor Plagge was next with a 42 and Eli Anderson had a 43.

The coach noted Dylan Bieber is showing strong improvement as a freshman.   “Forty-five is a good score in this weather. Eli and Dylan are starting to understand spring golf in Iowa.”

Tyler LeFevre also competed in the varsity match and carded a 48.

WC JV 181, CL JV 202

The Lynx also prevailed in the junior varsity match, outshooting the Lions 181 to 202. Cade Dillavou led the Lions with a 48, followed by Ethan Zickefoose (49), Carter Perry (50), Carson Kern (55), Ethan Gansen (56) and Jordan Ainley (56).

Both schools entered a junior JV, as well.  Thomas Sonderman was meet-medalist with a 43.

“Thomas said it was the best round he has ever shot.  I was excited to see his reaction,” said Coach Perry.  “Competition aside, this is what golf is supposed to be about.”

Spencer Invitational

The Lions took part in the 11-team Spencer Invitational Thursday, April 21.  With three players in the top 10, Clear Lake was runner-up in the team standings.  Host Spencer (Purple) took top honors with a team score of 317.  The Lions were runner-up with 324.  Webster City rounded out the top three with a score of 329.

Gavin Anderson paced the Lions with a six-over (40-38) 78 to finish in fifth place overall.  Eli Anderson  and Easton DeVries each carded steady rounds of 40 to finish with 80s, putting them in a three-way tie for eighth.  Taylor Plagge provided the final scoring score for the Lions with a (40-46) 86.  Also competing was Tyler LeFevre (48-41-89) and Dylan Bieber (50-45-95).
