Lions fall to Hudson, 3-2
by Marianne Gasaway
The Lions played their last home game of the season Monday, May 3, against Hudson. It was Senior Night for Noah Petersen and Sam Nelson.
The game started out well, with good ball movement up the field, but only a few quality shots on goal.
The Lions were able to break away in the back and forth affair when Matt Moore crossed a ball into the box and it bounced around until Andrew Korenberg was able to get it across the line 24-minutes into the first half.
Eight-minutes later the Lions capitalized on the wind factor when goal keeper Hunter Trenary played a long punt to Travaughn Luyobya, who worked his way past the last two defenders and poked the ball past the Hudson keeper for a 2-0 lead.
“Thirty-five minutes of good soccer was all for nothing when we had some major miscues at the end of the first half and allowed two goals in the span of one-minute right before halftime to end the break at 2-2,” reported Coach Hall.
In the second half the Lions were fighting the wind and worked hard trying to get a third goal, but with no result.
Hudson took advantage of the wind and scored off a free kick 15-minutes into the second half and even though the Lions pushed hard the last 10-minutes with some good chances at goal, they couldn’t find the back of the net and the game ended 3-2 in Hudson’s favor.
