Lions finish fourth at NCC track meet

The Clear Lake boys track team finished fourth in a highly competitive North Central Conference track meet held Monday, May 11, at Iowa Falls.  Algona won the title with 177 points ad Humboldt was runner-up with 106.  Webster City came in third with 96, followed by the Lions with 85 points, Iowa Falls-Alden with 81 and St. Ed’s with 71 points.  Clarion-Goldfield and Hampton-Dumont finished with 49 and 36 points respectively.

“We had great effort on a cold night,” said Coach AJ Feuerbach, adding that the meet was a good primer for District competition on Thursday.

Clear Lake’s Distance Medley Relay with Zach Tatum, Chandler Diercks, Dustin King and Zach Lester was a conference champion in 3:51.43.

Diercks also repeated as conference champion in the long jump with a mark of 22’10.5” in the finals.  

The Shuttle Hurdle Relay was edged by Algona.  The team of Parker Truesdell, Parker Crispin, Alex Vander Ploeg and Chase Bacon was runner-up in a time of 1:00.65.

VanderPloeg also earned a second place finish in the high jump.  He cleared 6’1” in the finals.

•1600: Grant Dieken, 7th, 5:18.72

•3200: Dieken, 5th, 11:32.59

•110 hurdles: Crispin, 4th, 16.28; Vander Ploeg, 7th, 16.76

•400 hurdles: Truesdell, 4th, 1:00.09

•4x100: Tatum, Cooper Merrill, Diercks, Makean Bang, 3rd, 45.45

•4x200: Tatum, Merrill, Bang, Diercks, 3rd, 1:35.56

•4x400: King, Tavian Coleman, Dylon Crotty, Karter Anderson, 7th, 3:52.72

•4x800: Speed Toyne, Cody Matz, Kirchoff, Anderson, 5th, 9:41.28

•High jump: Coleman, 7th, 5’6”

•Long jump: Merrill, 6th, 17’11.5”

 

Junior Varsity

The Lions’ junior varsity team finished second in the team standings behind Algona.

Winning performances were recorded by McKean Bang in the 100, clocking an 11.74 and Nico McPherrin in the high jump, with a leap of 5’4”.

Finishing in second place was Speed Toyne in the 200 (25.15), the 4x100 team of Tanner Huey, Luke Eggers, Toyne and Aaron Kelso (49.20); 4x200 team of Huey, Eggers, Zach Lester, Kelso (1:45.24) and Eggers in the long jump (16’8”).
