Lions runner-up at meet
The Lions finished as runner-up Thursday, May 3, at Lynx invitational in Webster City. Nevada captured top honors with a team score of 316. Clear Lake was second with 334, followed by Ballard with 341. The remainder of the field included Webster Cit with a 355, and Gilbert, 366.
Gilbert’s Tommy Doyle was the medalist with a 74; runner-up was Noah Hartmann, of Ballard, with 75.
“Jackson Hamlin lead our team today, playing a smart round,” said Clear Lake Coach Eric Perry. “Jackson’s strength on the golf course is his ability to manage his game around the course. Because of his awareness of his strengths and weaknesses, he is able to score well.”
Hamlin fired rounds of 40 and 38 to card a four-over-par 78.
Clear Lake’s next three scoring players were close. Tyler Eaton was steady with a (42-42) 84; Tate Storbeck had a (39-46) 85; Jack Barragy came in with a (42-45) 87.
“Tyler plays a steady game. His short game of wedges and the putter pace him through the round,” said Coach Perry. “Tate has been playing inconsistent, but we all know he has the ability to play a smart round and Jack is starting to come around and improves his mental game everyday. He’s had some struggles with his irons. If he fixes those, we are really in business.”
Also playing was Carter Backhaus with a (45-45) 90 and Andrew Crane (48-52) 100.
“The team just needs to play more competitive rounds. This has been about impossible this year to find many dates to get into the groove. Our team can do do this. We have golfers with the experience,” added the coach.
