The Clear Lake boys qualified four events for the State Track Meet this weekend in Des Moines.
Zach Lester was a triple qualifier. The junior won the high jump by clearing 6’2” and was second in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 57.78. He also anchored the winning Distance Medley team. Speed Toyne, Nick Eggers, Karter Anderson and Lester broke the tape in 3:41.65.
Parker Crispin, a senior, will return to State in the 110 hurdles. He won the event in a time of 1.32.
As a team, the Lions placed fourth overall in the 12-team field at the District Meet held in Garner.
“We are thrilled to get four events down to state!” said Coach A.J. Feuerbach. “With good performances, we really feel we have a great shot to medal in them all. We finished a strong fourth at Districts as a team and we are excited about that. Of the 12 teams at the District meet I think we were only school there with four spring sports, that makes that placing impressive for our kids. Time to get after it.”
Distance runners Ike Branstad and Grant Dieken made good showings, but fell short of making the trip to State. They finished sixth and seventh respectively in the 3200 meter run in 10:54.25 and 11:02.26. Branstad was also seventh in the 1600 in 4:54.39, while Dieken was ninth in the race in 5:00.17.
Other placements included Mitchell Faber, eighth in the 110 hurdles in 17.19; Will Kirschbaum, sixth in the long jump, 18’1”; Cameron Levenhagen, third in the discus, 124’11”.
The 4x200 relay with Nick Danielson, Luke Eggers, Anderson and Nick Eggers finished fourth in a time of 1:35.23. Toyne, Luke Eggers, Nick Eggers and Anderson were fourth in the Sprint Medley in 1:38.64.
The 4x100 relay with Toyne, Anderson, Crispin and Nick Danielson was sixth in 46.60.
