Lions well represented on All-NCC teams

Four Clear Lake players have been named to the All-North Central Conference baseball First Team, with four more receiving honors as Second and Third Team members.

Lion seniors Ben Mason, Ethan McHenry and Cooper Merrill were joined on the First Team by sophomore Zach Lester.

Mason compiled a 4-0 record as a pitcher in NCC games.  He had an ERA of 1.27 in league play while striking out 30.  Opponents batted .237 against the senior hurler.  At the plate, Mason had a .395 batting average in NCC games and a slugging percentage of .535.

Ethan McHenry was also unbeaten on the mound against NCC opponents.  He won two games in four starts, with an ERA of 1.91.  He struck out 24 and held opponents to a .222 batting average.  McHenry batted .395 against NCC opponents and had a slugging percentage of .744 and on-base percentage of .480.  He smacked three homers and had 18 RBIs in 14 conference games.

Infielder Cooper Merrill was a steady performer in the league.  He fielded at 90 percent, was 1-1 on the mound with a 1.75 ERA while holding opponents at a .122 batting average and getting nine strikeouts.  He recorded three saves for the Lions.  At the plate, he had a .327 average and .571 slugging percentage with 10 RBIs.  He was speedy on the bases, with 10 steals in 10 attempts.

Lester, the team’s catcher, had a stellar fielding percentage at .990.  On offense, he had a .255 batting average and .362 slugging percentage with 11 RBIs.  He also had nine stolen bases in nine attempts.

Clear Lake seniors Brad Burns and Parker Truesdell were named to the NCC Second Team, as was Tanner Huey, a junior.

Burns put together an impressive .393 batting average in 13 games, with a slugging percentage of .643.  The first baseman had a fielding percentage of .968.

Truesdell was also a regular on the base paths with a batting average of .388 and on-base percentage of .400.  His sluggish percentage was .429 in 14 games.  He was a perfect nine-for-nine in steals and had five RBIs in the conference season.

Huey, an outfielder, had a batting average of .262 and he recorded 11 RBIs in conference action.

Jacob Peterson, a junior, was named to the NCC’s Third Team.  He had a .323 batting average as the Lions’ designated hitter, with 10 hits ad four RBIs in 14 games.
