Lions win meet track title at Osage Invite
Osage Invite
The Lions won four events on their way to earning the team title at the Osage Boys Invite Tuesday, April 26. Clear Lake outdistanced runner-up St. Ansgar 132 to 124. Charles City was third in the seven-team field with 102 points.
Chase Bacon had an outstanding night and participated in all four wins. The senior won the 200 meter dash in 23.29, then joined Zach Tatum, Cooper Merrill and Parker Crispin to win the 4x100 in 45.48. Bacon also anchored the 4x200 to a win in 1:33.73. That relay also included Tatum, Merrill and Parker Truesdell. Truesdell, Crispin, Zach Lester and Bacon won the shuttle hurdle in a time of 1.02.92.
Lester had a pair of runner-up finishes in individual events. He was second in the 800 in 2:13.84, as well as the 1600 in 5:02.36. Crispin also notched a second place finish in the 110 hurdles in 15.89. He was sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.06.
Other top placements included Grant Dieken, third in the 3200 meters in 11:25.95; Merrill, third in the 100 in 11.80; Speed Toyne, third in the 200 in 24.66 and fourth in the 400 in 54.43; Tatum placed fifth in the 100 n 12.02; Nick Eggers was fifth in the 400 in 55.07.
In field events, Lester was second in the high jump, clearing 5’8”. Cooper was third and Luke Eggers placed sixth in the long jump with leaps of 19’1” and 17’3”. Jared Penning finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 122’7”.
The Distance Medley relay with Tatum, Luke Eggers, Nick Eggers and Karter Anderson placed second in a time of 4:02.85. The 4x800 with Nick Eggers, Luke Eggers, Toyne and Anderson was third in 3:51.43. The 4x800 was fourth with Anderson, Lucas Kirchhoff, Thorson Ollinger and Nick Currier running a 9:57.58.
Junior varsity
Konner Mills won both the 200 and 400 meter dashes in junior varsity competition. He posted times of 24.52 and 57.16. Thomson Ollinger and Joey Monson went one-two in the 400 hurdles in 1:08.4 and 1:08.45. Nick Currier and Austin Young placed second and third respectively in the 1600 meters in 5:57.12 and 6:02.89. Andy Hiscocks and Tyler Patterson were fourth and fifth in the 800 in 2:59.11 and 3:09.38.
The JV Lions picked up two placements in field events, with Dalton Mennenga finishing third in the discus with a mark of 72’11”, and Dalton Grell coming in sixth in the long jump with a jump of 14’6.5”
The 4x100 relay of Ryan Atkinson, Monson, Grell and Toyne was third in 51.58. The 4x200 with Atkinson, Monson, Grell and Luke Eggers was second in 1:49.96. The 4x400 was also second, with Tyler Patterson, Currier, Andy Hiscocks and Young running a 5:04.83.
The Distance Medley relay with Konner Mills, Atkinson, Grell and Tyler Wolfe was third in 4:59.41.
Bulldog Relays
Wins eluded the Lions at the Bulldog Relays in Hampton Friday, April 29, but the team still managed to score enough points to place fifth in the 10-team field with 62.5 points. Forest City won the team title with 145.5.
Zach Lester led the way with a runner-up finish in the 800 meter run in 2:05.56. He was fourth in the high jump by learning 5’6” and was a member of the 4x400 which placed sixth in 3:47.29. The relay also included Karter Anderson, Speed Toyne and Nick Eggers. Tonye and Eggers also placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 400 in 54.44 and 54.49.
Grant Diemen had a pair of individual placements; he was third in the 3200 in 11:12.64 and fifth in the 1600 in a time of 5:20.25. Parker Crispin figured in three placements. He was third in the 110 high hurdles in 16.21, then joined Nick and Luke Eggers and Toyne to place fifth in the 4x100 in 47.32. Crispin, Eggers, Eggers and Anderson were fourth in the Distance Medley in 3:56.06. Konner Mills also gave the Lion points for sixth place in the 100 meter dash in 12.13.
