Lorena L. Etchen
Lorena Luella Etchen, 85, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at her home.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Kirk M. Wilkie officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be made to Central Gardens of North Iowa, in Clear Lake, or Humane Society of North Iowa, in Mason City.
Luella was born May 6, 1930, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Lemke) Katter, in rural Garner. She grew up and attended school in Garner, graduating from Garner High School in 1948. She was a homemaker most of her life and later worked at Denny’s School of Dance in Mason City.
Luella was a member of the Rural Lakettes and Zion Lutheran Church, in Clear Lake. She was a great cook, gardener, and seamstress. She liked to dance and enjoyed watching her daughter, Teri, dance. Her two cats, Muffy and Rambo, were a true joy in her life.
Luella is survived by a daughter, Teri Lynn (Mark) Larson of Ames, Iowa; a sister, LaVonne Etchen, of Mason City; two nephews, Dan Pope, of Mason City, and David (Kristie) Pope, of Mason City; three nieces, Cheri Etchen, of Mason City, Debbie (Mark Nelson) Etchen, of San Diego, and Laurie Etchen, of Golden Valley, Minn.; and great-nephews and nieces, Jason Youngblood, Heather Pope, Allison Pope, and Ryan Pope.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry Katter; a sister, Rachel Pope; and a brother-in-law, Merle Etchen.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
