Main Avenue bid comes in close to engineer’s estimate
Wicks Construction Inc., of Decorah, Iowa has been awarded the contract for the city’s East Main Avenue Street Reconstruction and Bike Lane Extension project.
Wicks submitted the lowest of four responsible bids for the work at $2,182,590. The engineer’s opinion of the probable cost of the work was $2,185,257, or 0.1 percent less than the bid, meaning the assessment notices mailed to property owners in the project area are likely close to the amount they will pay. Wicks Construction most recently finished the North 32nd Street paving project and was also the contractor for the first phase of the East Main Avenue Street Reconstruction project (20th Street to South 24th Street).
The project schedule calls for construction of the underground improvements to being after Fourth of July festivities, on July 13, with a completion date of Nov. 20 Some paving work is expected to take place in 2020, with the balance to be completed by June 18, 2021.
