Man pulled from lake pronounced dead
A Mason City man was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa after he was found floating in Clear Lake Tuesday night, June 21.
At 9:26 p.m. the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to McIntosh Woods State Park in Ventura on a report of someone floating in the lake. Boaters found George Baker, 85, of Mason City, unresponsive and in the water. Baker’s boat was located approximately 300-feet from shore, unoccupied.
First Responders performed life-saving measures on Baker and he was transported to Mercy Medical Center by Clear Lake Ambulance. Baker was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A press released issued by the Sheriff’s Office stated it appears Baker slipped or fell while taking his boat out of the water.
Additional agencies assisting at the scene included the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Clear Lake Police Department, Clear Lake Fire Department and Ventura Fire Department.
