Margie L. Nelson

Margie Lou Nelson, 83, of Mason City, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Friday, April 7, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.

Per Margie’s wishes, her body has been cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Opportunity Village Fillmore Group Home, in Mason City, in care of Pam Hunt, 2012 1st Ave. S., Clear Lake, IA 50428.

Margie was born Oct. 5, 1933, the daughter of Fred and Helen (Lundin) Pals, in Meservey, Iowa.  She married Darwin Nelson on Oct. 5, 1950, in Meservey.  He preceded her in death on May 3, 2011.

Margie attended country school in Meservey and Swaledale before moving to Rush City, Minn.  She worked various jobs including being a waitress, working at EF Johnson, and Unisys.  She also was a self-employed baker, taking pride in baking family members’ birthday and wedding cakes.  She always had baked goods ready for friends or whoever happened to stop by for coffee.

Margie enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards, and crafts.  She also loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends at Briarstone Condos.

Margie is survived by four daughters, Deborah Nelson, of Mason City, Julie (Steve) Bothwell of Estero, Fla., Linda (Michael) Brooks, of Omaha, Neb., and Pam Hunt, of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert (Lois) Pals, of Clear Lake and Gene Pals, of Pine City, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Daniel; and siblings, Jim, Carol and Fred, Jr.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
