Marilyn A. Fischer
Marilyn Arlene Fischer, 86, of Rockford, Iowa, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs, Iowa.
A visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 21, at First United Methodist Church, Rockford, Iowa. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015. The Reverend Judy Wooton officiated. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery, in Rockford.
Marilyn Fischer was born on May 7, 1929, in Clear Lake, to Shirley Kimball and Agnetha (Christensen) Kimball. She grew up in Clear Lake and graduated high school in the class of 1947. Marilyn enjoyed working summers for her mother at the Lake Shore Hotel. After high school she attended the Iowa State Teachers College now known as UNI.
In 1952, she and her friend, JoAnn Watkins, biked the New England States. She loved to travel, whether down to the Hawkeye Basketball games or with her lady friends to Minnesota or Wisconsin for dinner theaters.
Marilyn taught school in Clear Lake and then in Charles City. This is when she was introduced to Bob. On June 2, 1956 she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Fischer, in Clear Lake. To this union three children were born: Bob, Steve, and Jane. Making their family in Rockford. Marilyn was active in 4-H, teaching several girls to knit and crochet. For several years she worked for Youth For Understanding, placing students with families and getting to travel one summer to Germany, Austria and Holland.
She would put the needs of others first always making sure everyone was cared for. Marilyn was very involved in the Rockford’s First United Methodist Church for several years she would organize the Mother - Daughter Teas which are still talked about today.
Marilyn was a people person and would always rather give to others than receive. Her greatest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren. She loved her grandchildren and loved spending her special time with them, never wanting to miss a sporting event. Marilyn enjoyed dinners downtown with the grandkids or just spending her special time with them at the house and liked to keep special treats always on hand for them to enjoy. In her free time Marilyn enjoyed crafting and working the crossword puzzles. Seeing if she or her friends could finish first. Marilyn will be remembered by her family as a giving person with a big heart.
Those left to cherish her memory include children, Bob (Sherry) Fischer, of Rockford, Steve (Robin) Fischer, of Rockford, and Jane Fischer (Curtis Frank), of Mason City; brother, Jack (Cynthia) Kimball, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Kate (Mike) Bowers, Tony (Whitney) Fischer, Leah (David Nassif), Christopher (Sara) Fischer, and Brennan (Holly) Fischer; great-granddaughters, Ariel Bowers and Brynlee Fischer; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fischer, in 1996; parents, Shirley and Agnetha Kimball; brother, Maurice (Bea) Kimball and brother in-law and sister-in-law, Roy (Peggy) Parker.
