Maxine Atkinson

Maxine Louise Atkinson, 91, passed away Dec. 10, 2015, at Sandy Lake Care Center in Coppell, Texas.

A private memorial service will be held Wednesday evening, Dec. 23, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, Coppell, Texas and a celebration of life event is being planned for the summer in Clear Lake.

Maxine was born to Henry and Matilda Borcherding Fredericks on Feb. 25, 1924, in Hampton, Iowa.  She lived in Clear Lake for 60 years and moved to River Oaks Assisted Living Center, in Coppell, in Oct. 2014.  For 34 years she wintered in San Antonio, Texas.

Maxine married George and they were married for 61 years.  They met in high school and attended Drake University together, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.  She was very socially and civically involved and active in her church, First United Methodist, Clear Lake and Coker United Methodist in San Antonio, where she was involved with the Altar Guild, Women’s Circle, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible school.    She was an avid golfer and loved to entertain, often having parties and family reunions at their lovely lakeside home in Clear Lake.

Maxine is survived by her sister, Barbara Smith, of Coral Stream, Ill., who was one year younger, and where they attended the same grade school and grew up much like twins; a son, David, of Clear Lake; Tom and his wife, Janice, of Coppell; grandchildren, Jeremy and his wife, Amanda, of Flower Mound, Texas; and Jennifer Meyers and her husband, Jeff, of Frisco, Texas; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Holly Atkinson and Joshua and Jessica Meyers.
