McKesson off to neighborly start

Volunteer work precedes job fair today at Surf

Seventeen employees of McKesson Corporation traveled to Clear Lake on Monday to spend an afternoon volunteering at the Opportunity Village Children’s Autism Center.

Members of McKesson’s North Central Region human resources team joined new human resources team members, the operations director and the assistant operations director from the company’s Clear Lake facility. Together, the group provided volunteer labor to complete painting of several rooms at the Opportunity Village Children’s Autism Center.

“The timing could not be better,” said Christina Maulsby, family services advocate at the Children’s Autism Center. “We were looking for volunteers to help with this big project and McKesson was looking for a way to connect with the Clear Lake community.  What a great way to partner and meet all our needs. We are so thankful.”

The group first enjoyed lunch and a tour, where they earned about Opportunity Village, its mission and the services the organization provides.  That was followed by painting at the Children’s Autism Center.

Chris Van Norman, director of operations for the new McKesson Corporation facility in Clear Lake, was among those volunteering.  Van Norman said he recently moved from Chicago to Clear Lake and is now able to see the facility through its final preparations for opening in Spring 2016.
