MercyOne expects Moderna vaccine next week
Officials with Mercy One have announced they expect to receive a shipment of a coronavirus vaccine next week.
A statement from the hospital read: “With the vaccine now only days away, we are turning a corner in this global health crisis. MercyOne is confident in the safety and efficacy of the vaccine with the FDA approval. We strongly encourage everyone ages 16 and older to be vaccinated.”
MercyOne North Iowa will receive the Moderna vaccine for colleagues and providers. The Moderna vaccine will be reviewed by the FDA for Emergency Use Approval this Thursday. If approved, the vaccine should arrive in North Iowa early next week.
“MercyOne North Iowa has been actively planning for vaccine distribution to our providers and colleagues as soon as locations receive the first shipments. The health center is also participating in planning for the broader North Iowa community with our partners at public health from surrounding counties,” the statement continued. “We are follow-

ing CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (CDC ACIP) and state guidelines on vaccine distribution. Distribution is expected to begin within a few days. Locations will initially be limited to those selected by their state governing body.”
MercyOne will also follow CDC recommendations for vaccine prioritization, including ensuring health care workers who wish to be immunized, and residents of senior care facilities receive the COVID-19 vaccine first. From there, the most efficient ways to distribute the vaccine to the community based on CDC ACIP prioritization and vaccine supply made available will be used.
