Mohawks edge Lions

Mason City 3, CL 1

Mason City edged the Clear Lake girls, 3-1, in a match played Monday, April 10.

“Though we lost,  I was pleased with our effort,” said Clear Lake Coach Steve Faber.  “Considering most of our kids were up late with Prom over the weekend we couldn’t have asked for much more of them.”

The Mohawks took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, but Clear Lake’s Sara Faber answered the call and scored her third goal of the season at the 25-minute mark.  She received an assist from Julia Merfeld.  During the match Faber took four shots on goal and Merfeld two.

The score remained tied at 1-1 well into the second half.

With about 20-minutes to play Mason City again took the lead on a penalty kick and held on for the victory.

“I was really proud of our play in the middle,” added Coach Faber.  “Rissa Barragy,  Jessica Faber and Lexi Holtz continue to provide strength in the middle, which keeps us in these matches.”

Clear Lake goal keeper Ana Starbeck  was credited with eight saves.
