Nelson joins race for Supervisor

Doug Nelson, rural Clear Lake farmer, has announced his intent to file papers for the District 2 Cerro Gordo County Supervisor seat as a Democrat.

He becomes the third Democrat to seek his party’s nomination in the election.

Nelson, operator of a family farm near Thornton, has 10 years experience with leadership development through volunteer work for Toastmasters International Corporation, a public speaking and leadership development nonprofit.  He is currently serving as Chief Ambassador for Toastmaster’s after having served as District Governor, the top state-level leader.

Nelson also serves as a trained mediation consultant for Lagrange Point Solutions, LLC.

“I believe in finding practical solutions for today’s problems by building outcomes that improve conditions for everyone.  Since I live in the rural part of the county and pay agricultural as well as dwelling property taxes, I understand the need to balance services, environmental concerns and safety with keeping taxes manageable.  My experience in mediation and leadership, as well as a life time of dealing with the unexpected while farming and raising a family, have prepared me to serve the county.”
