Nelson will seek re-election as Ward 2 Council rep

Tony Nelson, City Council Representative for the Second Ward, has announced he will seek re-election to a third term.

“I can’t say how honored and privileged I am to have served the citizens and community of Clear Lake since 2010.  “My passion for Clear Lake since I was first elected has not faltered, but has actually grown stronger.  I want to continue the legacy we have set and keep placing Clear Lake in the path of success and positive movement.  This community has supported me in so many ways and I want to return the favor by asking the citizen’s to allow me to run again for the Ward 2 council seat.   We have many opportunities ahead of us and I know I have the experience, time and dedication to identify the ways our city government can continue to succeed.”

Nelson was elected in 2010 to serve a four-year term on the Council representing the residents of Ward 2.  He is currently serving his second term.  He also represents Clear Lake as a board member of the Landfill of North Iowa.

After graduating from Lake Mills High School, he attended Central College in Pella, Iowa where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management.  He is a co-owner and the director of Sales and Marketing for American Resources LLC of Lake Mills.

Tony’s wife, Ashley, is the controller for Stoney Creek Hospitality in Mason City.  The couple have three daughters, Brynn, Brooklyn and Becca.

“I chose to move back to North Iowa in 2007 and specifically chose Clear Lake as I saw it was the best place to live, work and raise a family in all of North Central Iowa,” said Nelson.  “To this day, I couldn’t agree more.  We continue to lead the path in job growth, amenities, public safety, and quality of life.”

Nelson will be challenged in his re-election effort by Bennett Smith, who is seeking office for the first time.
