NIACC women heading to Nationals; Peterson earns individual honor

The NIACC women’s basketball team is heading back to the NJCAA National Tournament in Overland Park, Kan., following a 83-80 victory over DMACC Saturday night.  The win was the second Region XI title in the last three seasons for the Lady Trojans.

Trudy Peterson, a former Clear Lake High School standout basketball player, is one of the starting players on the NIACC roster.

The 13th ranked Lady Trojans started the season with an 8-8 record, but ended the season winning 10 in a row as they head to the National Tournament beginning March 15.

Peterson was one of three NIACC players to be named to the All-NJCAA Region XI First Team.  Peterson, a third-team selection as a freshman, averages 13.0 points per game and has made 89 three-point goals this season.  She scored a school-record 51 points in a game this season against Kennedy King College.  She is the daughter of Gary and Tracy Peterson, of Clear Lake.
