No evidence of school threat at CLMS

Clear Lake school officials quickly addressed a perceived threat last week and met with students at the Clear Lake Middle School to alleviate any fears.

Superintendent Doug Gee posted a message on the district’s website and social media late Tuesday, April 24, informing parents a safety concern at the Middle School had been investigated and determined not to be a “viable threat.”  Gee’s message was also emailed to parents.

“This morning, district administration was made aware of a possible threat made by one of our students.  (Assistant Principal) Mr Ludwig, (High School Principal) Mr. Murphy, a Clear Lake police officer, and myself were all involved in investigating the situation.  After a thorough investigation, we determined that there was not a viable threat.  We then met with all of the sixth grade students to talk with them and reassure them that they were safe.”

Police Chief Pete Roth said officers working the case could not substantiate a threat and did not feel there was any danger to students or staff. The potential threat was made in conversation and not via text message or on social media.
