Pauline Hackbarth

Pauline “Polly” Francis Hackbarth, 93, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Douglas Holmes officiating.  Following a luncheon at the Lakeview Community Room, burial will be at Coulter Cemetery, in Coulter, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Village General Store in Clear Lake or to Hospice of North Iowa.

Polly was born Feb. 15, 1923, the daughter of Francis and Anna (Clausen) Horn, in Coulter.  She married Merrill Hackbarth on July 23, 1947.  He preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 2000.

A graduate of Hampton High School, Polly received two years of nursing training before returning home to help on the family farm and work at the bank as a teller.  She retired in 1984, from a management position with K-Mart.

Polly was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed roller skating in her younger years, traveling with Merrill, Lenora and Peely and completing her puzzle books, which included word searches.  She also liked volunteering at the Village General Store in Clear Lake, crocheting and she especially loved spending time with her granddaughter, Olivia.  Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, because she enjoyed decorating her home.

Polly is survived by two children, Laurie (Tom) Ohmart, of West Des Moines, Iowa and Hal (Lori) Hackbarth, of Clear Lake; and a granddaughter, Olivia Hackbarth, of Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Lenora Christensen; and brother-in-law, Peely Christensen.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
