Plenty to cheer about at home track meet

Indian Relays

The Clear Lake boys track team had just four members gone on a band and vocal trip to New Orleans Friday, but they were missed greatly.  Coach A.J. Feuerbach said major changes to the lineup were needed and the result was a fourth place finish in the Class A division.

Zach Lester had three third place finishes to lead the Lions.  He ran the 800 in 2:11.57 and the 1600 in 5:11.19. He was third in the high jump, clearing 5’6”. Speed Toyne finished fourth in the 400 in 54.95.

The Lions took first in the 4x200 and second in the 4x100 with Zach Tatum, Cooper Merrill, Parker Truesdell and Chase Bacon.  The quartet posted a 1:35.24 and 44.74 in the events.  The shuttle hurdle team was also victorious in 1:03.28.  That relay included Parker Crispin, Lester, Truesdell and Bacon.

Additional placements:

100: Crispin, eighth, 12.74.

200: Tatum, seventh, 25.17; Luke Eggers, eighth, 25.91

400 hurdles: Thorson Olinger, eighth, 1:08.71

Discus: Olinger, sixth, 99’08”

Long jump: Bacon, seventh, 17’03”

Shot put: Jared Penning, eighth, 37’03.5”

4x100 (weight person): Joe Monson, Thorson Ollinger, Jared Penning, and Chase Stuver, fourth, 55.41

4x400: Speed Toyne, David Vohs, Luke Eggers and Parker Truesdell, fourth, 3:49.53

4x800: Lucas Kirchoff, Ollinger, Austin Young, and Tyler Patterson, fifth, 10:28.64

Sprint Medley: Tatum, Vohs, Toyne, Kirchoff, fourth, 4:08.75

Lion Relays

The Clear Lake boys track team gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about Tuesday, April 12, when they hosted the Lions Relays.  The Lions were second in the team standings with 92 points.  Algona captured the team title with 173 points.

Cooper Merrill led the way for the Lions.  The senior won the long jump with a leap of 18’8.5” and joined Zach Tatum, Parker Truesdell and Chase Bacon to win the 4x100 in 44.92.  The same quartet also placed second in the 4x200 in 1:35.53.

“It was good to see our seniors (Zach Tatum, Cooper Merrill, Parker Truesdell, Chase Bacon) win the 4x100 when they had some handoff troubles and should have won the 4x200, as well,” said Coach A.J. Feuerbach.  The coach was also impressed by his middle distance runners.  “Zach Lester continues to get better in the open 800 and Karter Anderson had a gutsy 800 to get us third in the Medley.”

Lester won the open 800 in 2:09.47, while the Distance Medley team of Tatum, David Vohs, Eggers and Anderson ran a 3:56.49 for third.

Speed Toyne and Nick Eggers also had great nights, placing second and third in the 400 in 54.66 and 54.93.

Parker Crispin recorded a runner-up finish in the 110 hurdles in a time of 16.28.  He joined Lester, Truesdell and Bacon in the shuttle hurdle relay and was second in 1:01.65.

Other placements included: Merrill, fourth in the 100 in 12.03;  Bacon and Toyne, third and sixth respectively in the 200, 23.69 and 24.89; Grant Diemen, fourth in the 1600 in 5:27.61; Jared Penning, sixth in the shot put, 38’9”; 4x800 (Lucas Kirchhoff, Thorson Ollinger, Anderson, Nick Currier), fifth in 9:57.46; 4x400 (Toyne, Anderson, Vohs, Eggers), sixth in 3:49.66.

Junior Varsity

Luke Eggers earned a pair of first place finishes in JV competition at Lions Field.  He won the 200 meters in 25.65 and the long jump with a leap of 16’4.75”.  Eggers was also part of the 4x100 relay which placed third in 51.63.  The other members of the relay were Noah Copney, Joey Monson and Dalton Grell.

Aaron Kelso finished second in the 100 meter dash in 12.46, while Ryan Atkinson was third in the 400 in 1:07.61.  Atkinson was also seventh in the 200 in a time of 28.50. Thomson Ollinger placed second in the 400 hurdles in 1:08.25 and was third in the discus with a mark of 97’7”.  Nick Currier was fourth in the 1600 meter run in a time of 6:06.19.

The JV’s distance medley team with Kelso, Atkinson, Grell and Currier placed this in 4:47.35.  The 4x400 team of Ollinger, Currier, Andy Hiscocks and Auston Young was fourth in 4:44.41.

Cowboy Relays

Zach Lester won the 800 and was a member of the Lions’ winning shuttle hurdle relay team at the Cowboy Relays in Clarion Monday, April 11.  Lester ran the 800 in 2:08.63.  In the shuttle hurdle with Parker Crispin, Parker Truesdell and Chase Bacon ran a 1:03.24.

Clear Lake’s 4x100 and 4x200 were also winners with Zach Tatum, Cooper Merrill, Truesdell and Bacon running in both relays.  The 4x100 clocked a 45.04, while the 4x200 ran a 1:37.04.

The distance medley team of Tatum, David Vohs, Nick Eggers and Karter Anderson was a winner in 4:01.29.

Clear Lake’s 4x400 with Speed Toyne, Karter Anderson, Vohs and Eggers was forth in 3:35.36.

In the field events, Cooper Merrill was second in the long jump with a mark of 19’3”.  Vohs was fifth in 18’7”.  The Lions also picked up two placements in the shot put.  Aaron Kelso and Jared Penning were fifth and sixth respectively with shows of 40’3.25” and 40’1.25”.

Individually, Eggers and Toyne placed second and third respectively in the open 40 in 55.04 and 55.68. Young also picked up a third place finish in the 200 in 23.24.  Bacon was sixth in 24.56.  Parker Crispin was second in the 110 hurdles in 15.85.

Sixth place finishes were recorded by Merrill in the 100 (11.61), Lucas Kickoff in the 800 (2:25.40) and Noah Copney in the 400 hurdles (1:07.55).

Junior varsity

Clear Lake’s JV 4x200 team with Vohs, Joey Monson, Dalton Grell and Luke Eggers was second in 1:45.57.  Eggers also finished as runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 17’2”.  Grell was sixth with a jump of 14’.  Other JV placements included Nick Currier and Austin Young finishing fifth and sixth respectively in 1:07.54 and 1:12.51.  Austin Young was fourth in the 1600 yard run in 6:09.65.
