Robert J. Dankbar

Robert Joseph Dankbar, 83, of Clear Lake, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave. S., Clear Lake, with the Rev. John Gossman officiating.  Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868.

  Robert was born Dec. 15, 1932, the son of Joseph and Isabell (Knoll) Dankbar, in Garner, Iowa.  He married Joan Smith on June 7, 1958, at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Mason City.

A graduate of Clear Lake High School, Robert joined the United States Air Force in 1952.  After serving four years he returned home and began working for H&H Distribution as a truck driver.  He later began working for Nelson Petroleum, where he remained for 34 years.

Robert was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, in Clear Lake, Knights of Columbus Council 7898, and was very active at the Senior Citizens Center.  He had an impressive tractor collection which included a fully restored 1938 International F20.  He enjoyed golfing with friends, hunting in his younger years, going on bus trips, and going to dinner with friends.

Robert is survived by his wife, Joan Dankbar, of Clear Lake; two sisters, Donna Prescott, of Albert Lea, Minn., and Ruth Colbert, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James Dankbar.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
