Robert Johnson
Robert Phillip Johnson, 81, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at Westview Care Center, in Britt, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at Galilean Lutheran Church, 4454 255th St., Clear Lake, with Pastor Scot McCloskey officiating. Inurnment will be held at sea at a later date.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church in Clear Lake.
Family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of one’s choice.
Robert was born Nov. 21, 1936, the son of Charles Edward and Ethel Marie (Kelley) Johnson, in Algona, Iowa. He married Juanita Conrad in 1996 in Des Moines, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Robert grew up and attended school in Algona prior to enlisting in the United States Navy in 1954. After a career in the Navy, he retired in 1975 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Following his retirement, he was employed as a loan officer at the Great Lakes Credit Union at the Naval Training Center, in Great Lakes, Ill.
Robert returned to Algona in 1988 and pursued his hobbies of gardening, fishing, golf and he became involved in the American Legion and Kiwanis Club in Algona. He moved to Clear Lake in 2000, and became a member of the Galilean Lutheran Church.
Robert is survived by two sisters, Virginia Copas-Baxter, of Clear Lake, and Shirley (Robert) Metzger, of Ames; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; six sisters, Elizabeth Byrne, Lois Brinkema, Janell Kickbush, and Darlene, Marion and Joanne Johnson in infancy; and four brothers, Charles “Darrell”, Curtis, Rodney and Kenneth Johnson.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
