School Board to review superintendent candidates Monday
The consultants of McPherson & Jacobson L.L.C. have completed Phases I and II of the superintendent search process for the Clear Lake School District. Last month consultants met with the district’s Board of Education to establish selection criteria for the screening process.
On Thursday, Feb. 4, the consultants met with Clear Lake School District students, employees, and community patrons to solicit their input into the selection process. This input will be used by the Clear Lake Board of Education, as they continue to establish the profile for the next superintendent.
The deadline for submitting application materials was Feb. 10. After that date the consultants began reviewing the completed files and rating the candidates against the established criteria. The consultants have been conducting extensive background checks on the candidates.
On Monday, Feb. 29, the consultants will meet with the Board of Education to review candidates and assist the Board as it selects final candidates to be interviewed. At that meeting, interview dates and schedules will be established and the involvement

of the various groups of district employees and patrons will also be established.
The top five criteria determined by the Board are:
•Instructional Leader: An individual who is a strategic thinker, strong in curriculum, and has a solid working foundation and expertise in Iowa School Finance and Budgeting.
•Effective Communicator: An individual who possesses the ability to communicate effectively to manage and foster positive relationships in the district and community.
•Experience, Character & Ethics: An individual who has a proven track record as an educator, administrator and mentor, and is an ethical leader who demonstrates outstanding character.
•Manager: An individual who is a solid manager of personnel and physical resources.
•Visible: An individual who is approachable and highly visible internally and externally.
After the superintendent has been hired and is on the job, the McPherson & Jacobson consultants will facilitate a Board/Superintendent workshop to assist in the establishment of performance objectives for the new superintendent, which enhances the transition process for both the board and the superintendent.
The new Superintendent is expected to be named by mid-March.
