Smith named head volleyball coach
Clear Lake Activities Director Dale Ludwig has announced that Nashua-Plainfield Head Coach Jill Smith has been hired as the Clear Lake High School volleyball coach, pending school board approval. Smith was the head volleyball coach at N-P for eight years. She is leaving a program that’s coming off of consecutive 20-win seasons.
In 2013, Smith guided the Huskies to their first ever Corn Bowl Conference Championship. She has prided herself in seeing improvement in the program with each passing year. The head coach of the Huskies has been no stranger to success in her athletic career. She was a member of both the state runner-up volleyball squad (Waverly-Shell Rock) in 1998 and state qualifier softball team (Waverly-Shell Rock) in 1997. She was a part of three Northeast Iowa Conference championships between volleyball and softball and earned all-conference honors in both volleyball and softball, as well as all-district and all-state honors in softball.
Smith came to Nashua-Plainfield after stints at Wartburg College (assistant volleyball; 2004, 2005) and Mankato West High School (head coach; 2003). She also served as the head softball coach at Waverly-Shell Rock High School (2002, 2003), Nicollet High School (2004), Nashua-Plainfield High School (2005 - 2007) and Grundy Center High School (2009).
Smith will be taking over the CLHS volleyball program from Keith Sears, who led the Lions for two seasons.
