town Monday, May 14.  A-P controlled most of the match and left with a 5-0 victory.

“That game did not go well for us. The girls were just off. We could not settle in and allowed AP to control us,” said Coach Greg Jennings.

Sara Faber took had four shots on goal for the Lions.

Goal keeper Ana Starbeck recorded 21 saves.

Mason City 3, CL 0

Thursday, May 17, the girls traveled up the road to Mason City.  “It’s always a fun game to play with them being a neighboring town,” said Coach Jennings.

The Mohawks were able to control the tone and pace of the game, putting up three and allowing none.

“Mason City is a good team over all— well structured and well coached.  My girls couldn’t get anything going on the offensive attack so it was a very defensive game for us,” said Jennings.

Faber again took the shots on goal for the Lions, but all three were turned away.  Starbeck had 16 saves in goal for Clear Lake.

CL 3, IF-A 1

The Lions were trying to break out of their loosing streak when Iowa Falls-Alden came to town Thursday, May 18.

Allexa Whitehouse found the back of the net in the fourth minute of the game, with an assist coming from Kateyln Moore, to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

“Iowa Falls has been on the seniors’ bucket list this season.  In their last four years the Lions have always fallen short of the victory, so this one was a little personal for my girls,” said Coach Jennings.

The Lions came out strong the second half, with Sara Faber putting together a pair of goals.  Allexa Whitehouse was credited with an assist to help the Lions to a 3-1 victory.

“My defense has had their name called a lot in the last few games, so this was a good one for them,” noted Jennings.  “Lexie Holtz, Rissa Barragy, Taylor Hill and Delaney Eden really did a nice job controlling the back field. Ana Starbeck was solid in our goal with 16 saves.”

CL 5, Webster City 3

The winning continued Monday, May 21, when the Lions played at Webster City.  Coach Jennings reported that his team controlled most of the game, mostly through Taylor Krull and the Lion defense keeping the ball on their attacking half.

Sara Faber placed the ball past the goal keeper four times in the game.

“Sara is something special.  Fun to watch.  The way she sees the field and is able to distribute the ball is very impressive,” said Jennings.

Chelsey Holck found the goal, as well, for the Lions.

“We were able to try a lot of new things during this game. It was the last game of the regular season so we moved a lot of kids around and let them play some different spots. It was a fun game for the girls,” added Jennings.

Faber had a total of nine shots on goal for the Lions.  Allexa Whitehouse took four, while Holck and Krull had two apiece.  Lexi Holtz and Lizzie Lakose each took one shot on goal.

Goal keeper Ana Starbeck had 11 saves for the Lions in the win.
