Students want to involve community in Homecoming
Parade idea brought back; Game Day pep rally at park
The Clear Lake Student Council is working to make Homecoming more than a school event this year. New activities, as well as the revival of a few old ones, are included in this year’s Homecoming Week, Sept. 8-12.
“They are proud of their town and we hope the community is proud of some of the amazing things these kids have done, and these activities are a way for the entire community to celebrate the great things we have going for us here in Clear Lake,” said Seth Thompson, who serves as co-advisor to the Student Council along with Kama Shultz. “They are trying to do some things like a parade, a service project in which they are partnering with NHS (National Honor Society), a beach night, and a Game Day Pep Rally at City Park to generate excitement for our school and community.”
This will be the first year for a Homecoming parade since the late 1990s. The route for the Friday, Sept. 11, parade, will appear in next week’s Mirror-Reporter.
Also new this year is class competitions at the high school. The competitions, along with dress up days, are only for high school students. The community is welcome to watch Monday’s Powderpuff football game and Tuesday’s Beach Night and Tug of War, but students are encouraging the community to be present for the parade and pep rally on Friday.
“The Lions and Devils are on two different levels!” is the theme for the week. The Clear Lake football team will be hosting the Osage Green Devils Friday night.
