Susan D. Pals

Susan Dianne (Jurgenson) Pals, 76, of Clear Lake, formerly of Meservey, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus, in Rochester, Minn. 

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, in Hampton.  Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, attendance at the visitation will be limited to 15 indoors and 30 outdoors at all times. 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, in Hampton, with an opportunity to join Sue’s funeral service virtually via “Zoom”.  Those in attendance at both the visitation and service will be required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

A private family burial will take place in the Meservey Cemetery.

Sue was born May 9, 1944, in Mason City, to Dr. George Earl and Mildred Jane Slusher.  She was born on her parents’ first wedding anniversary.  Sue graduated from Meservey High School, Class of 1962. She later graduated with honors from Hamilton Business College, Mason City.  She was united in marriage to Robert H. “Butch” Pals on Sept. 21, 1963, in Meservey, Iowa.  To this union two children were born: Thomas, in 1965 and Sara, in 1968.

Sue worked at the Franklin Medical Clinic, in Hampton.  She then worked at Eaton Corporation, in Belmond, and finally at the North Iowa Eye Clinic, in Mason City.  Sue was baptized and confirmed at Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church, in Meservey, was a former member of Alexander Reformed Church and was a longtime and faithful member of the Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church. A highlight of Sue’s life as a Christian were three trips to the Holy Land, including one with her mother, a memory she cherished.

Sue was an exceptional cook and seamstress. She was an avid Biblical scholar.  She loved and cherished her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother throughout her life. She was a true and faithful friend. Her generosity and bright smile were a blessing to many.

Sue is survived by son, Thomas Pals (Monica), of Alexander; daughter, Sara Pals (Paul), of Meservey; grandchildren, Robert Thomas, Brianna Susan, Brandi Jane, Brandon Dean Flurer; and great-grandchild, Lena Elizabeth; sister, Judy (Dr. Robert) Gross, of South Dakota;  niece, Alison (Tom) Harris, of Arizon; nephew, Cooper (Mallory) Gross and daughter, Piper, of South Dakota; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her husband, Robert H. “Butch” Pals; and parents, Dr. G. Earl and Jane Jurgenson, preceded her in death.
