Qualify for Class 1A State Tournament
The Clear Lake boys tennis team made school history last week. The Lions qualified for the Class 1A team state tournament on Saturday, May 21, in Fort Dodge, but fell in the first round of the State competition.
In the substate final, the Lions posted a 5-2 win over Spencer. Clear Lake improved to 9-1 with the win and advanced to Team State for the first time in school history, while Spencer fell to 8-3.
“This was a great team win,” said Coach Rich Peters.
Clear Lake then fell to LeMars, 5-1, in the first round of State. The Lions finished the dual season with a 9-2 record. LeMars moved on to the semifinals with a 13-0 record.
The state individual tournament takes place next week, with Clear Lake’s Sam Jones competing in the singles competition. He is the defending State champion. Ben Mason and Jacob Peterson will be competing in doubles.
