Thomas “Tommy” “Elvis” Washington, 68, of Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at Rhythm Church, Mason City, with Pastor Nathan Gann officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake and then one hour before the service on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to Opportunity Village, North Iowa Vocational Center, Humane Society of North Iowa, Patriots for Pets or Rhythm Church in memory of Thomas.
Tom was born in Des Moines, Iowa, Dec. 12, 1947 and moved to the Mason City, Clear Lake area in 1972.
He worked at the Cerro Gordo County Farm, where he enjoyed taking care of the baby pigs. He later worked at the North Iowa Vocational Center, Mason City.
Tom was a very expressive and a charismatic person and was known throughout the community for his love of dancing and celebrating the Christmas season. He enjoyed listening to Elvis music, watching the older western shows especially Lone Ranger. He loved to cook and have his Mountain Dew.
Tom is survived by many friends, who were his extended family.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
