Times improving for CL girls track team

NCC Meet

The Clear Lake girls finished in eighth place at the North Central Conference Tournament held Thursday, May 5.  Algona ran away with the title, chalking up 165 points.  Humboldt was second with 116, narrowly defeating Webster City, which had 114.  Clear Lake finished with 36 points.

A highlight of the meet for the Lions was the third place finish of the shuttle hurdle relay team.  Olivia Amos, Ashley Archer, Kayla Ritter and Tali Tesar posted a time of 1:14.55.

Clear Lake’s 4x200 and 4x100 teams also improved their times.  The 4x200 team of Macy Mixdorf, Archer, Sharrell Lee and Megan Merfeld ran a 1:55.81 to finish in fourth place.  The 4x100 team was seventh, as Mixdorf, Kaylee Nosbisch, Archer and Merfeld were clocked in 55.36.

The Distance Medley relay was fifth.  Merfeld, Lee, Mixdorf and Mallory Leisure ran a 4:53.07.

Individually, Tesar recorded a fourth place finish in the 400 hurdles; her time was 1:13.62.  Alena Gabrielson was sixth in the 3000 in 13:23.78.  Archer had a leap of 14’5” to place sixth in the long jump.

second in the 1500 meter run with a personal best time of 6:02.63.  Olivia Amos also had her best 100 meter time, placing second in 17.78.

Other JV place winners included Laura Rose, fifth in the 200 in 31.63; Kaylee Nosbisch, second in the long jump with a mark of 11’10”; and Katie Tofte, fourth in the shot put with a toss of 25’9”.

The JV 4x200 team of Rose, Tofte, Mikayla VanderPloeg and Rachel Barillas was fourth in 2:14.21.   The 4x100 team of Amos, Barillas, VanderPloeg and Joslyn Gannon was fifth in 1:00.20.

Don Hoppel Relays

The Clear Lake girls were at Garner Monday, May 2, to compete in the Don Hoppel Relays.  The Lions were seventh in the eight-team field with 35 points.

Ashley Archer had the highest placement of the day for the Lions.  She was third in the long jump with a leap of 14’10.5”.  Other individual performances earning points included Talie Tesar, fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.25 and fifth in the 100 hurdles in 17.62.  Alena Gabrielsson was fourth in the 3000 in a time of 13:02.73 and sixth in the 1500 in 5:58.72.  Kayla Ritter was fourth in the 400 in 1:08.15.  Lee Sharrell was fifth in the 200 in 28.84 ad Mallory Leisure was fifth in the 800 in 2:49.05. Bailey Larsen was fifth in the 3000 in 13:16.62.

Four Lion relays scored points.  The shuttle hurdle team of Olivia Amos, Archer, Ritter and Tesar was fourth in 1:13.02.  The 4x200 team of Macy Mixdorf, Archer, Lee and Megan Merfeld was fifth in 1:56.51.  The 4x400 team of Lee, Emilie Jandebeur, Leisure and Tesar was fifth in 4:44.72.  The Sprint Medley team of Kaylee Nosbisch, Lee, Merfeld and Jandebeur was fifth in 2:06.70.
