Tough week for GHV baseball team
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team had a tough week, dropping four games.
North Union 11, GHV 1
North Union went on a scoring frenzy on Wednesday, June 3 and beat GHV, 11-1 on the Cardinals’ home field.
The game was close until the final two innings, with North Union only having a slight 3-0 lead heading into the sixth inning. North Union scored four runs in each of the last two innings, Ryle Kozisek scored the Cardinals’ lone run in the seventh inning.
Also collecting a hit was Holden Hutcheson, Brandon Ross, and Payton James.
Alek Goll took the loss on the mound. Goll pitched six innings and Brandon Ross pitched one. Goll gave up six hits, walked one and struck out one. Ross gave up four hits. He walked one and struck out one.
Bishop Garrigan 13, GHV 1
It was a rough outing for the Cardinals when they traveled to Bishop Garrigan on Friday night. The Golden Bears dominated in a 13-1 victory.
Payton James took the loss on the mound, giving up four hits and seven runs. He walked three. Kaleb Bruggerman also pitched, giving up three hits and four runs and walking five. Cody Kent also tried his arm on the mound. He gave up two hits and two runs.
Nick Joynt knocked in Harley Forry for the Cardinals’ lone run.
Humboldt Tournament
The GHV baseball team competed in the Humboldt Tournament on Saturday, June 6. They lost both games.
The Cardinals faced a tough Humboldt team, falling 16-1. Brandon Ross scored GHV’s only run.
Ross took the loss on the mounds, giving up 11 hits and 11 runs. He also walked three. Cody Kent provided some relief pitching. He gave up three hits and five runs. He walked one and struck out one.
The Cardinals improved against Central Springs, only losing that contest by one run, 4-3.
Colton Schroeder took the loss. He gave up two hits and three runs. He walked two and struck out two. Ryan Meyers and Holden Hutcheson also pitched. Meyers gave up one hit and struck out two, while Hutcheson gave up three hits, one run and walked two.
Harley Forry led the team at the plate, with two hits, one run and one RBI. Nick Joynt and Schroeder both had one hit and one RBI. Alek Goll and Connor Burke had one hit apiece.
GHV’s other two runs were scored by Payton James and Burke.
