Garner Meet

Winning meets never gets old and the Clear Lake boys track team is learning that first hand as they captured their fifth team championship Monday night, May 3, at the Don Hoppel Co-Ed Relays in Garner.  The Lions scored 148 points to win the meet.  Forest City was second with 103 points and Belmond Klemme was third with 81.5 points.

The team had six first place finishes.  Jagger Schmitt had an impressive night by winning the long jump with a leap of 19’1”.  He ran a personal best time of 23.69 in the 200 meter dash, good for second place.  He was also member of the winning 4x100 team.  The impressive relay team also consisted of Tyres Green-Harrington, Tanner Reimann and Austin Warnke.  The team ran the race in 44.79.

Another impressive feat was a first and second place finish in the 100 meter dash.  Green-Harrington won the race in 12.11, followed closely by Jay Kapler with a time of 12.18.

The hurdle team also had a good night, with Tyson Cooley winning the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.05.  Jack Crane placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.59.  The shuttle hurdle team won that event with a time of 1:04.43.  Members of that relay were Zeke Nelson, PJ Feuerbach, Crane and Cooley.

Justin Wright led the long distance runners by winning the 3200 meter run.  He finished the endurance race in 10:48.12

Carson Krefft placed second in both the discus and the shot put.  He threw the discus 114’02” and he hurled the shot put 41’6”.

“Our team would not be as successful if we didn’t have such incredible assistant coaches,” said Head Coach Troy Tysdahl.  “Tim Dodge keeps improving our sprinters with his knowledge and background.  Our distance runners are contributing so much under Tyler Havens. Our throwers have scored more points and been instructed on technique by Doug Daughan.  Vernon Johnson is the reason our hurdlers have had so much success this season.  Our jumpers have more depth than ever under Tony Brownlee and AJ Feuerbach is a jack of all trades and loves these kids and sport like nobody else.”

Helping the Lions gather points were one-two finishes in two separate events.  Tanner Reimann and Jagger Schmitt were first and second in two events. In the 400 meter dash, Reimann ran the lap in 52.18 and right behind him was Schmitt in 52.48.
