Two losses move GHV volleyball team’s record to 3-12

It was a tough week for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura volleyball team, as they dropped matches to North Union and Rockford.  The losses moved the Cardinals record to 3-16.

North Union 3, GHV 1

The Cardinals traveled to North Union on Tuesday, Oct. 2.  Although the two teams had similar records, with North Union having a record of 7-20 and GHV 6-13, it was the Wildcats that came out the victors.

North Union easily won the first game by a score of 25-13.  The Cards put up a fight in the second game and came out on top, 25-21.  The final two games went to the Wildcats, 25-15 and 25-19.

“There were moments where our offense was clicking and we were able to string points together,” said Coach Kelsey Edwards.

Erica Eenhuis had a stellar night, leading the team in most categories.  At the service line, she was 12/14, with two kills.  She recorded 13 kills and led the team in digs with 11.

Other leaders at the net included Chloe Frank with seven kills, while Morgan Ryerson had six kills and Megan Eastman recorded four.

Carlee Frayne and Eastman each recorded a block.

Macey Spilman led the team with 20 assists.  Maddie Graham had six assists.

Other defensive leaders included Maddie Williams with eight digs, Jamie Hejlik had five and Spilman and Ryerson had four digs apiece.

Williams led the team at the service line, serving 16/17, with two aces. Graham served a perfect game, going 10/10, while Frayne was 9/10.

Rockford 3, GHV 1

GHV gave Rockford (10-10) a run for their money on Thursday, Oct. 4, but a win just wasn’t in the cards.  They fell 3-1 to the Warriors.

The Cardinals put up a fight in the first game, but Rockford came out on top in the end, 25-18.  GHV pulled out a close win in the second game, 25-21.  The final two games were all Warriors, with scores of 25-18 and 25-14.

The serving line was not the problem for the Cardinals Thursday night, as seven girls served perfect games.  Maddie Williams led the charge serving a perfect 13/13.  Carlee Frayne was also 100 percent serving 12/12. Maddie Graham was also perfect at 9/9 at the line.  Erica Eenhuis was 13/15 and Tori Sloan was 5/7.  Eenhuis, Graham, Sloan and Tricia Hall all had one ace apiece.
