Two more big wins for GHV girls soccer team

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team picked up two big wins in action last week.

GHV 4, Webster City 0

The Cardinals shut-out Webster City on Monday, May 15, 4-0.

“The difference in this game was energy,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “We had energy from the start and didn’t let up.  Webster City has improved throughout the year, so I was happy to win.”

Payton Echelberger had two goals for GHV.

“Payton is really playing well right now and she is starting to understand the wing position,” said Banse.

Also scoring goals for the Cards was Allison Johnson and Abby Kale.

Goalie Morgan Westendorf had 12 saves.

Coach Banse also praised the play of his defense, Kale, Bretta Carolus, Brooklyn Laird, Emily Howke and Carlie Knutson.

GHV 2, Humboldt 0

GHV picked up another win on Thursday, May 18, when they traveled to Humboldt.  The Cards beat the Wildcats, 2-0.

Maddie Williams and Hannah Lau each scored a goal for the Cardinals, coming from assists by Payton Echelberger and Allison Johnson.

“This was a good week for us.  We are starting to play well together and it is at the right time,” said Coach Banse.  “Our defense again showed that we can hold good offensive teams to a shut-out.  I am pleased with where we are as a team and we will continue to work toward our goals.”

Morgan Westendorf had nine saves at the goalie position.
