Upmeyer re-elected House Speaker
On Friday, Nov. 9, House Republicans re-elected Rep. Linda Upmeyer (R-Clear Lake) as Speaker of the Iowa House in advance of the 88th General Assembly.
Upmeyer was first elected Speaker in 2015, and had previously served as the House Majority Leader since 2011. She is the first woman in Iowa history to hold both positions. She has been a member of the Iowa House since 2003.
“I am honored and humbled to continue leading this great group of House Republicans forward as Speaker,” said Upmeyer. “Our economy is growing and the budget is balanced. We are investing in education while cutting taxes on hard-working middle class families. We are eager to get back to work and continue making Iowa a better place to live, work, raise a family, and grow a business. I am proud of what we have accomplished over the last eight years and look forward to building on those efforts.”
The 2019 legislative session begins Monday, Jan. 14.
