Ventura hosts hearing for whole grade sharing

    The Ventura Board of Education held a Public Hearing on Monday, Nov. 21, to discuss a whole grade sharing agreement with Garner-Hayfield Schools.  
    About 100 people attended the hearing, which is the second of three steps toward a final agreement. School Boards from both districts started the process by approving resolutions of intent in October. The next step is for the Garner-Hayfield School Board to also host a public hearing.     Once boards have given their approval the agreement will be finalized.
    Monday’s hearing formalized the talking points which the districts have been discussing since early fall.  Details of the proposed contract were presented by Ventura School Board President Larry Costello.
    If approved, whole-grade sharing will begin July 1, 2012 and last for two years with the opportunity to renew it after that or terminate it before then.  Each district would maintain its own elementary school, serving students in grades kindergarten through sixth.  Seventh and eighth grade students from both districts would attend school in Ventura in the high school building.  Middle school teams would be called the Ventura/Garner-Hayfield Vikings.  High school students, grades nine to 12, from both districts would attend school in Garner-Hayfield and be known - Read More Via e-Edition
