Ventura woman charged with theft from cancer charity

A Ventura woman is accused of stealing from a cancer charity.

Leanne Renee Hicks, 51, of Ventura, was booked into Cerro Gordo County Jail Friday, April 15 on charges of ongoing criminal conduct and second-degree theft.

Authorities allege that between June 14, 2014, and Jan. 4, 2016, Hicks repeatedly misappropriated funds from “Buddies for Boobies” while she served as president of the nonprofit organization.  Hicks allegedly stole more than $1,000 but less than $10,000.

Hicks was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail on April 15; she posted bond and was released.

Hicks is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court April 29.  Ongoing criminal conduct is a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison, while second-degree theft is a Class D felony, punishable by up to five years.
