Wade O. Baago

Wade Owen Baago, 75, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at his home.

A memorial service was held on Monday, April 22, 2019, at Open Bible Church, 509 S. 17th St., Clear Lake, with Pastors Will Hunsaker and Dave Toyne officiating. Inurnment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City.

Wade was born March 11, 1944, the son of John and Ann (Wharam) Baago, in Clear Lake.  He married Mary Ann Thayer on June 4, 1977, at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, in Clear Lake.

A graduate of Clear Lake High School, Class of 1962, Wade joined the United States Navy and served as a cable layer from 1962-1964.  Growing up he was always fascinated with planes and trucks.  He worked at the Mason City Airport where he took flying lessons, before going to Rockford, Ill., and O’Hare International Airport to work as a ground equipment mechanic.  In 1971, he started hauling grain in North Dakota before moving to Missouri and working for Rhodes Bake and Serve.  Later, he owned and operated his own semi-truck and transported for Wagoneers for seven years, which took him on routes throughout the United States and Canada.  He semi-retired in 2010, and started driving for companies such as: UPS in Des Moines and Dedicated Logistics, Inc., in Clear Lake.

Wade was a past member of Agape Christian Family Church and current member of Open Bible Church, both in Clear Lake.  He was a very kind, giving man who enjoyed volunteering at both churches in many capacities including: greeter, usher, and fleet mechanic to name a few.  He always liked working and spending time in his truck on the road.  He also liked to golf, but most of all, cherished the time he got to spend with his family and grandchildren.

Wade is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of Clear Lake; a daughter, Mary (Robert) Meyer, of Callender, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; brother, Myron (Sue) Baago, of Keller, Tex.; nieces, Dawn (Eric) Rohing, of Ft. Worth, Tex. and Heather (Joe) Mara, of Roanake, Tex.; and a very special group of young people, Noah Clites, Katie Ginapp and Speed and Sky Toyne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Gary Garlinghouse and Janie Allard-Ebaugh; a granddaughter, Stacy Olson; and an aunt and uncle, Eva (Wayne) Martin.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
