Watershed Management Authority proposal introduced at City Council meeting

At its Monday night meeting, the Clear Lake City Council was briefed by Deb Tesar, representing the Association for the Preservation of Clear Lake (APCL), about the idea of a new “Watershed Management Authority.”  The idea would continue the efforts started by the APCL and the CLEAR Project, which was formed in 1995.  Since that time, millions of dollars have been spent on various lake restoration projects, including $12 million on dredging alone.

Bid awarded in GHV expansion and remodeling project

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura School Board has awarded the bid for an expansion and remodeling project at its high school building to Larson Contracting, of Lake Mills, Iowa.

Larson submitted the lowest of five bids for the work.  Its base bid was $6,211,500.  With alternatives included by the Board, the Larson bid was about $6.48 million.

Sharen Roenfanz

Sharen Ann Roenfanz, 66, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, with Pastor Jesse Burns officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Sharen Roenfanz Memorial Fund.

Russell Schurtz

Russell E. Schurtz passed peacefully into history on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, in Aiken, S.C.  A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 7, at St John’s Episcopal Church, 120 1st Street NE, Mason City, Iowa.  A celebration of life will follow from 5-7 p.m. at the MacNider Museum, in Mason City.
