Forest City edges G-H/V for Regional victory

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team dropped its first Class 3A Region 1 contest on Monday night, Oct. 22.  Forest City swept the Cardinals, 3-0, with scores of 28-26, 25-12 and 31-29.

 

Lions earn solid 24-7 victory over Webster City

 

The Clear Lake Lions responded to an uncharacteristic District loss to Humboldt Sept. 21 with a solid 24-7 victory over Webster City Friday night, Sept. 28.

“I’m so happy with the way the kids responded after the loss,” Head Coach Fred Wieck said after the game.  “It went as well as we could have hoped.  We had to have this one.”

Cardinals move record to 11-3

 

It was a busy week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team, as they competed in matches on Tuesday, Thursday and a tournament on Saturday.

    Number six ranked (1A) Nevada ended Clear Lake’s record-setting soccer season Friday.  Nevada was a 1-0 winner in the Regional semi-final played Friday at Nevada. The Lions concluded the 2012 season with a 9-5 record-- the most wins in the program’s history.

Toppin to compete in two events

Joel Toppin will represent the Ventura boys track team in two events at the State meet to be held in Des Moines this week.
    “We knew that if he ran consistent times that he would give himself a shot,” said Coach Rod Huber.  “And like he has done all year, he ran with poise and determination.”
    Toppin qualified in 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run.  He placed third in both events with times of 4:49.54 in the 1600 and 10:29.53 in the 3200.  He also placed

Busy schedule for CL girls tennis team

The Clear Lake girls tennis team played two dual matches in two days and participated in a quadrangular meet on the third day. The busy schedule provided lots of opportunities, according to Coach Martha Andrews.

    The Lions played at Iowa Falls Monday, April 30.  Clear Lake’s Alexis Atkinson picked up a win in singles for the Lions, as did the doubles team of Kaitlyn Pitzen and Taylor Julsen.  Julsen also played a very close singles match, but lost in the tie-breaker, 7-5.

Clear Lake boys tennis team downs Webster City, 8-1

   The Clear Lake boys tennis team downed Webster City, 8-1,  in their first home match off the season on  Monday, April 16.  Jerry Kockler, JJ Theobald and Austin Anderson all won their singles matches by a score of 10-1.  Also picking up

Toppin paces Ventura boys track team

The Ventura boys track team competed in two meets last week.  Monday, April 2, the team competed at the CWL meet held in Britt and on Thursday, April 5, they were at Clarion.
CWL Meet
    Sophomore Joel Toppin picked up two first place medals to pace the Vikings.  He ran the 3200 meter run in 10:39.44 and the 1600 meter run in 4:55.87.  He also placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:17.96.
    Josh Miller placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 31’4.50”.
