The Ventura girls dropped two games last week, one a conference match-up and the other a non-conference tilt.

    Some foul trouble derailed the Lady Vikes Tuesday night.  They dropped a conference matchup at home to NSKAR.

Bulldogs end girls’ win streak

Hampton-Dumont ended Clear Lake’s five-game win streak with a 59-50 victory Tuesday, Dec. 20.
    Clear Lake Head Coach Bart Smith explained the Bulldogs’ size gave them an advantage on both ends of the court.

Davidson, Swenson and Sheakley earn All-Conference recognition

 

Three Clear Lake Lions have received All-North Central Conference honors from coaches.  Junior Spencer Davidson was a First Team choice.  Junior Pete Swenson was named to the Second Team and senior Gavin Sheakley was picked for the NCC’s Third Team.

Davidson was the leading scorer for the Lions with an average of 19.5 points in 24 games played.  His scoring 

Clear Lake girls ranked 14th in Class 4A

The Lions got back on the winning track last week with victories over Bishop Garrigan and Eagle Grove.  The team is now 14-4 overall heading into the final week of the regular season. This week the team will be at Humboldt Thursday and Charles City Saturday.

Despite halftime lead; Lions lose to Iowa-Falls Alden

 

The Lions went to Iowa Falls Friday night looking to avenge the loss the Cadets handed them in the first game of the season.  They didn’t get the win, but a much better outing has made Coach Kevin Kahler and his team believers that the third time may be the charm if the Lions meet IF-A on the tournament trail.

Back on Nov. 27, the Cadets topped the Lions 67-58 in the season-opener.  

Friday IF-A, 9-2 overall and leading the North Central Conference, escaped with a 59-57 victory.

Golden Bears control Lions in 79-67 win

 

After three hotly contested quarters, Algona Garrigan strung together three critical possessions to take control and get a win over the Clear Lake boys Tuesday, Dec. 18.  The final score was 79-67.  

The teams were locked at 32-32 at halftime, but the Golden Bears outscored the Lions 21-13 in the third and looked to be building momentum heading into the final quarter.  The Lions again closed the gap, but late in the game the home team again began to pull away.

Cardinals roll over North Union; fall to a tough West Fork team

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team split a pair of games to open the 2012-13 season.

G-H/V 70, North Union 41

Despite some first game jitters, the G-H/V boys came out firing on all cylinders and downed North Liberty 70-41 in basketball action on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Lions take care of business

 

It wasn’t always pretty, but Coach Fred Wieck said his team took care of business and did what it had to do to earn home field advantage in tonight’s first round of the State Playoffs.  The Lions topped Algona 27-7 Friday night to end the regular season with a 7-2 overall record, 5-2 in Class 3A District 3.
