Humboldt interrupts Clear Lake district win streak

Humboldt erupted for 26 points in the second half on their way to a 26-10 victory over Clear Lake Friday night.  The win snapped the Lions’ 34 game district win streak and dropped the team to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Class 3A, District 3.

Despite these second half scoring blitz which brought the Wildcats (2-3, 2-1) from a 7-0 halftime deficit to the win, Clear Lake Coach Fred Wieck said his teams’ play in the first half was the difference.

Indians stop Lions

 

Forest City-- and specifically quarterback Tate Thompson, was just too much for the Lions Friday night.  The Indians outscored Clear Lake 25-7 in the third quarter on their way to a 32-17 non-District victory.

CLHS announces Preview Nights

The Clear Lake football program will be holding its annual preview night on Thursday, Aug. 16, starting at 5 p.m. at Lions Field.  The team and cheerleaders will be introduced.  The public is welcome to attend.  The Booster Club 

will be serving a meal for $5.

On Thursday, Aug. 23, the Clear Lake volleyball team will be holding its annual preview night starting at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym.  The public is invited.

DeVries selected to IHSAA Football Players Hall of Fame

   A Clear Lake assistant football coach will be among those inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Football Players Hall of Fame this year.

Girls soccer team drops evenly matched game to Mason City

    It couldn’t have been more even, but after 120-minutes of play the Mason City Mohawks got the win over the Clear Lake girls soccer team Tuesday night.  The Mohawks were 2-1 winners in a double overtime 10 shot place kick shootout.
    The Lions got their goal in the first half from Logan Anderson.

Clear Lake falls to W-SR in Regional tennis action

 The Clear Lake varsity girls tennis team traveled to Waverly Saturday, May 12, to compete in team Regionals.  The Lions played Waverly-Shell Rock first and fell, 0-5.
    Coach Martha Andrews said that aside from the team loss, she was disappointed that relatively new tournament rules

Lady Vikes place second at Lake Mills Meet

    Small in numbers, but big in talent is the best way to describe the Ventura girls track team.  The team has been putting that talent to good use, as they continue to pick up plenty of first place medals and some high team placements in area track meets.

CL boys bounce back from shaky start

What a difference a few days can make.
    The Clear Lake boys golf team bounced back from a shaky start to the season at Decorah by capturing the team title at the Spencer Invitational Saturday, April 14. 
Viking Invitational
    It was a rough day for the Lions at the Viking Invitational held in Decorah Thursday, April 12.  The Lions finished sixth in the eight-team field.  The host team won the team title with a score of 300.  The Lions came in at 336.

Early Bird gives girls a preview of season

    The Clear Lake girls track team got a preview of their  season at the Early Bird Relays at Algona Thursday, March 29.  Bishop Garrigan, Okoboji, West Hancock and North Union joined Clear Lake and host Algona at the meet.   There were no points or medals awarded; the meet was simply an opportunity to get the athletes ready for the

Lions cruise past Oelwein 73-52 in District opener

    The Clear Lake boys sputtered a bit at the start, then cruised past Oelwein in the first round of Class 3A District 5 post season play.  The Lions (12-10) advanced to play Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday at Mason City with their 73-52 victory.
