 The Ventura girls picked up two big conference wins in action last week on the basketball court.  The wins moved their conference record to 6-3 and their overall record to 8-9.

Vikings fall to undefeated Harris-Lake Park

Harris-Lake Park showed the Ventura boys why they are the number one team in the Cornbelt Conference and a top ranked team in the state on Friday night, Jan. 6.  The 11-0 Wolves topped the Vikings 65-33 in the Ventura gym.

Clear Lake girls finding their game

After an 0-2 start on the season, the Clear Lake girls basketball team has found its game.  The Lions picked up a pair of North Central Conference wins last week to improve to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the NCC.   They topped Iowa Falls-Alden, 60-58, then pummeled Humboldt, 64-27.

G-H/V girls top Osage; fall short to Spirit Lake

 

The post season got off to a good start for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls with two big wins.  In the opening round the Cardinals beat Central Springs and went on to top Osage in the second round.  It was in the third round that G-H/V’s luck ran out.  They fell to Spirit Lake to end their season.

Lions in NCC mix

 

Clear Lake kept itself in the mix of the North Central Conference race with victories over Webster City and Hampton-Dumont.  The Lions, now 8-3 in the NCC, will be at St. Ed’s (9-4) Friday.  The Lions and Gaels are both chasing Humboldt and Iowa Falls-Alden, who are both at 10-2 in the league.  The Lions are also home Thursday to take on Eagle Grove.

Wrestlers place third at Forest City

 

The Clear Lake wrestling team placed third in the eight-team Forest City Invite on Saturday.  The Lions nearly placed second, losing 153 to 152 to Algona. Charles City ran away with the team title. 

Clear Lake boys pick up two road wins

 

The Clear Lake boys improved to 3-1 in the North Central Conference with two road wins last week.  The Lions bested Webster City and Hampton-Dumont to gain momentum heading into more key NCC games this week.  Last night (Tuesday) the Lions hosted Clarion-Goldfield and Friday they will take on St. Ed’s.  The Gaels are tied with Algona at 3-0 in the NCC.  Iowa Falls-Alden, which defeated the Lions in their first game of the season, sits atop the NCC standings at 4-0.

Lions earn post-season honors

 

Eleven members of the Clear Lake Lions have received First Team All-District honors in Class 3A, District 3 balloting.

The Clear Lake boys and girls cross country team each claimed third place at the North Central Conference Meet held Tuesday, Oct. 9, at River Road Golf Course in Algona.  Five of the 14 varsity Lion runners earned all-conference honors by finishing in the top 10.

Humboldt interrupts Clear Lake district win streak

Humboldt erupted for 26 points in the second half on their way to a 26-10 victory over Clear Lake Friday night.  The win snapped the Lions’ 34 game district win streak and dropped the team to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Class 3A, District 3.

Despite these second half scoring blitz which brought the Wildcats (2-3, 2-1) from a 7-0 halftime deficit to the win, Clear Lake Coach Fred Wieck said his teams’ play in the first half was the difference.
