First match-ups tough for CL softball team

    The Clear Lake girls ran into a Class 4A buzz saw in their season opener Monday, May 21.  The Mohawks topped the Lions in three innings, 14-0.
    “They were a very difficult team to play our first game against,” said Coach Nikki Petersburg.  “As the score reflects, our hitters were not prepared to face a pitcher of Lexi Peterson’s caliber.”

Girls compete at North Central Conference Track Meet

    A trio of fifth place finishes was the best the Clear Lake girls track team could post at the North Central Conference track meet held Monday, May 7, at Clarion.  The Lions finished 10th in the 10-team field with 23 points.  Algona won the team title with 159 points, easy outdistancing runner-up Bishop Garrigan with 91.

Faught leads CL girls track team with two wins

    Steph Faught was a double winner for the Clear Lake girls at the Indian Relays run Tuesday, April 24, in Forest City.  She helped the Lions to a third place finish among Class A teams.  Algona won the division with 204 pints, followed by Forest City with 142 and Clear Lake with 101.  Iowa Falls-Alden was fourth with 98 points and Central

CL girls open season with impressive start

    The Clear Lake girls golf team opened the season in impressive fashion.
    Meg Monson’s 39 led the Lions to a triangular win over Mason City and Newman Catholic April 9.  The match was played at the Mason City Country Club.  The Clear Lake team fired a 179.  Mason City was next at 212, followed by Newman Catholic at 215.  Monson was the medalist.

Toppin captures two golds for Vikings at opening meet

   The Ventura boys track team opened their season on Monday, March 26 at the NEH Early Bird held at South Hamilton in Jewell.
    Sophomore Joel Toppin paced the Vikings with two first place finishes.  Toppin ran the 3200 meter run in 11:05.84 and the 800 meter run in 2:16.70 to capture the gold

Vikings fall to Bison in District action

The Ventura boys’ season came to an end at Buffalo Center on Thursday, Feb. 16, when they fell to number nine ranked North Iowa in the second round of Class 1A District basketball action.
    “Our guys came out probably the best we’ve seen them play all season, which is great for the last game of the year,” said Coach Chad Brown.

Lions’ Kellogg wins NCC title

Clear Lake’s 182-pounder Logan Kellogg became a two-time North Central Conference champion at Saturday’s conference tournament.  Matt Bieber  (120) and Blake Kelso (126) were runner-ups in their respective weight classes.

Grapplers to host two meets this week

The Clear Lake wrestling team will host two meets this week.  Thursday, Jan. 5, the Lions will take on conference rivals Humboldt and Webster City in a junior varsity/varsity

meet.  Clear Lake and Humboldt will start things off at 6 p.m., followed by Humboldt vs. Webster City at 7:30 and then Clear Lake vs. Webster City at 8:30 p.m.
    Saturday, Jan. 7, Clear Lake will host its invitational.  Eight teams will be competing, beginning at 10 a.m.

Basketball teams may enter Pacesetter Iowa Youth State Tournament

 

All Iowa youth basketball teams in grades 5-9 may enter the Pacesetter Iowa Youth Basketball State Tournament playoffs in Cedar Falls or Ankeny on Saturday or Sunday, March 23-24.  Pacesetter state championships are held in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. The top two teams from each state advance to the
