Successful week for G-H/V volleyball team

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team put in a busy week, with two matches and the North Iowa Conference Tournament.

After dropping the first match 27-25 to Belmond-Klemme, the Cardinals swept through the next three sets for their fourth 

Volleyball team faces powerful competition

 

The Clear Lake volleyball team took on a pair of North Iowa powers in a Thursday, Sept. 6, triangular.  Host Charles City topped the Lions 25-10, 25-9 and Mason City posted 25-9, 25-22.  The losses put the Lions at 6-3 in match play.

“Charles City is ranked number two in the state in Class 4A . They are a very well coached team and deserve that high ranking,” said Clear Lake Coach Scott Swenson.  “MCHS has been playing a lot of the best 5A 

Traffic tips for those heading to the CL vs. MC football game Friday night

 

The following is information from Mason City High School regarding traffic flow around the complex due to construction. Those planning to attend Friday’s football game at MCHS should be aware of the following:

Highway 122 is under construction in front of the high school, and it will take about four more weeks to complete 

Fourth ranked Lions move record to 20-4

    Coach Seth Thompson is encouraging the Clear Lake community to get out to the ball field this week and help the Lions finish the home stretch of the regular season strong.  After playing seven games last week, the fourth ranked (3A) Lions are 20-4 and have two suspended games (Clarion and Eagle Grove) that will both be made up Friday.

Decorah unseats Clear Lake to claim 3A State Golf championship

Top ranked Decorah unseated Clear Lake as Class 3A State Golf champions over the weekend, posting a (308-308) 616.  Clear Lake, which had defeated the Vikings in Regional play, was runner-up with a (323-327) 650.  The State Meet was played Friday and Saturday at Ames Golf and Country Club.

NCC Track Meet proves to be a tough outing for CL boys

    The Clear Lake boys track team was primed to make a strong showing at the North Central Conference track meet Monday, May 7.  But with the exception of a few personal bests, the Lions fell short of continuing to better their performances and ended up 10th in the 10-team field.

Hard-fought victory for CL boys soccer team

        The Clear Lake boys soccer team earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over in a match played Monday night, April 23, in Humboldt. 
The varsity teams were tied at 1-1 at the half and knotted at 2-2 in the 29th minute, but Clear Lake pulled out the win 3-2 with five-minutes remaining.

Clear Lake hosts Lion Relays; place in the middle of the pack

Lion Relays
    Clear Lake hosted its Lions Relays Tuesday, April 10.  The Lions finished in the middle of the eight-team field with 66 points. 
    The Lions had a pair of first place finishes in the meet.  Chandler Diercks won the long jump with a leap of 19’ 10”, while teammate Jake Harle was second at 18’ 3/4”. 

Small, but mighty Ventura girls place fourth

 The Ventura girls track team opened its season at the CWL meet held in Britt on Monday, April 2.  The small, but mighty team of eight had a good night, placing fourth out of nine teams.  West Hancock won the meet with 198 points, followed by Lake Mills with 123, Garner with 114 and Ventura scored 41 points.  Also competing in the meet was CAL, Central Springs, Belmond-Klemme, Northeast Hamilton and CWL.

CL girls fall in Regional final to Spirit Lake

    The season came to a close a few minutes too early Saturday night for the Clear Lake girls.  A fourth quarter run by the Lions fell short and they were defeated by Spirit Lake 53-43 in the Class 3A Regional final.
