Clear Lake places three on All-State Teams

 

The Iowa Baseball Coaches Association has named three Clear Lake players to its All-State Team. 

Gavin Sheakley was selected as a pitcher on the Elite Super Team and Jerry Kockler and Mitch Keeran were named to the Second Team as a pitcher and outfielder respectively.  

Results for weekend bicycle races

 

The annual Bicycle, Blues and BBQ event was held on Friday-Sunday, July 13-15, in Clear Lake.

Three bike races were held in conjunction with the weekend.  On Saturday at 7:30 a.m. the BBQ Omnium race kicked off with a seven mile time trial starting at Lions Field on North 8th St.  All eyes were on the

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team moved their record to 5-14 by picking up two more wins and dropping two last week.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team faced Bishop Garrigan in a double header on Tuesday, June 18.  The Cardinals dominated one game and were dominated in the other.

G-H/V came out strong in the first game and handed the Golden Bears an 11-4 loss.

Girls end season with a school best record of 10-4

The Clear Lake girls soccer team was eliminated from post-season in play in the Regional semi-final played Friday in Denver.   The Lions ended their record-setting season with a school best record of 10-4.  The team also set a record by allowing just 15 goals to be scored against them during the season.

Lions win opening round in Class 2A Regionals

 

 

The Clear Lake boys soccer team won its opening round Class 2A Regional match Monday night, setting up a second round match with Hudson tonight (Wednesday, May 22) at Hudson starting at 5 p.m.

The Lions were 2-1 winners over Iowa Falls-Alden in their post-season opener.

Tiebreaker decides winner at NCC Tourney

 

On the strength of a tiebreaker, the Clear Lake boys captured the North Central Conference Tournament Monday at Veteran’s Memorial Golf Club in Clear Lake.

G-H/V boys track team wins John Larson Relays

 

It was an exciting night for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team Thursday, April 25.  The Cardinals got to take the victory lap as winners of the John Larson Relays in Armstrong.  G-H/V earned 147 team points, followed by Bishop Garrigan with 120.  Seven teams competed in the meet.

“I knew going into this meet that we had a chance to win it,” said Coach Tracy Schmidt.  “But after the Belmond meet where we led the whole time, but finished second, we didn’t want to take anything for granted.”

Lions roll over A-P, 4-1

 

The Clear Lake boys soccer team got off to a fast start and went on to collect a 4-1 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg Monday night, April 15.

The Lions jumped to a quick lead, scoring the first goal just :27 seconds into the match.  Carson Farmer made an attack up the right side line to the corner.  Farmer crossed the ball to the center of the field, finding Karlen Lu for the early score.  

Volunteers needed for Earth Day Run

 

The Earth Day 5k and 10k committee is looking for volunteers for the race on Saturday, April 13.  Race Course Marshals are needed to ensure runner's safety along the course and for directing runners through the course.  Volunteers must be 18-years or older.  A mandatory volunteers meeting will be held at 8 a.m. on race day at the Bandshell in City Park.  

A tale of two halves for Clear Lake

Lions end strong with 39-12 win over Cowboys

For the second week in a row the Clear Lake Lions played drastically different halves of football.  And again, a strong second half broke open the game and resulted in a victory.  The Lions produced 232-yards of offense in the second half, compared to just 20 for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, and posted a 39-12 win Friday to move to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Class 2A District 2.
