City Council approves sale of property to Opportunity Village

 The Clear Lake City Council approved the sale of city owned residential property Monday night to Opportunity Village.
 Opportunity Village will pay $40,000 for the lot at 1115 and the north half of 1119 S. 3rd St. The Village intends to build a single-story home on the 85 x 130-foot parcel. Four clients will reside in the single story home.

Keith Markwardt

 Keith H. Markwardt, 75, Mason City, Iowa, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa. A funeral service was held on Friday, May 23, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Mason City, with Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale, Iowa. Memorials may be given to Wesley United Methodist Church.

CLHS boys golf team to return to Class 3A State Golf Meet

 The Clear Lake boys will be returning to the Class 3A State Golf Meet this week. The Lions edged Decorah and finished as District runner-up Friday in Waverly. For the second time in three meetings Clear Lake got the best of Decorah, which finished third.

A good-sized crowd gathered at the Sea Wall Monday morning for local Memorial Day services.  The Clear Lake Fire Department used its aerial ladder truck to

MC man drowns in lake early Saturday

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office reports a Mason City man drowned in Clear Lake Saturday, May 24.

At approximately 2:56 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a missing person report near Farmers Beach, on the lake’s south 

shore, in rural Ventura.  Deputies located the body of David Jon Caspers, 26, of Mason City, in the lake.   Caspers was fishing with friends when the incident occurred.  

A statement issued by Sheriff Kevin Pals stated no foul play is expected.
